10 Simple Things You Can Do to Get a Cherubic Glow

I .     DRINK WATER

Water is sacred. If you aren’t hydrated you can’t expect your skin to be. Consider this a sign to drink another glass of water.

II .     SLEEP

Not a revelation but if you aren’t getting sleep your skin will also be tired. Help your skin feel reborn, make sleep a priority.

III .     REDUCE IRRITANTS

Some people have strong skin, for those people, you’re blessed. For us mere mortals, irritants increase inflammation in the skin making it hard for cells to repair damage. If you have dry or sensitive skin avoid known irritants like heavy fragrances, concentrated essential oils, citrus oils etc.

IV .     WASH YOUR FACE EVERY NIGHT

You’re tired, you just want to pass out, you didn’t even put on makeup today! Presumably, you live on planet earth. Your environment has pollutants you should wash off in addition to sweat and makeup you may, or may not have applied. Deliver your skin from pollution and wash your face every single night. No, a makeup wipe does not count.

V .     WEAR DAILY SPF

SPF not only protects your face, but it gives it a chance to heal. Exposure to UV light causes inflammation. Let your skin nap by using at least SPF 30 at the end of your routine to absolve it for the day.

VI.     APPLY PURE OILS LAST

Water evaporates, oil doesn’t. Putting pure oils on first hampers water-based routines from reaching your skin. If you use face oils, try patting it on after any water-or-humectant-rich routine. The only thing that can lock in an oil is an occlusive so unless your cream is a rich balm or wax, put oil last.

VII.     CRY

Stress is bad for skin and crying helps your soul (and cortisol levels). Happy tears, sad tears, stressed tears, let it all out.

VIII.     CLOSE EVERYTHING

Oxygen is great for keeping you alive, but it’s destructive to skincare ingredients. Oxygen destabilizes products and they can go bad. Leaving a dropper bottle or jar open leaves it vulnerable. Stop your actives from ghosting, close your products.

IV.     STOP OVER-WASHING YOUR FACE

Here’s the thing. Oil isn’t the enemy, it can be a savior. Oil protects skin and keeps it soft, elastic and cherubic. While you should wash your face at night, in the morning you’ve just woken up from clean sheets - what are you washing off? The answer is your own god-given oil. Instead of reaching for foaming or harsh cleansers that can strip your skin, use milky cleansers in the AM. You can also test skipping the cleanse entirely, splashing water on your face before starting your routine.

X.     GET OFF YOUR PHONE (FOR A BIT)

There are many reasons you shouldn’t be on your phone 24/7 but here’s our trifecta; they’re rarely clean, can trigger stress and we don’t know enough about what blue light (high-energy visible light) does yet. Say a little prayer and put it down, you don’t need the infinite scroll.
